Mission Statement
The Hellenic Society of Louisville is a social and cultural nonprofit organization created in 1992 and based in Louisville, Kentucky. Its goals are to promote the ideals of Hellenism and Hellenic culture both past and present, as well as to provide a forum through which Philhellenes may pursue matters of common interest. Proceeds collected from events sponsored by the Hellenic Society go to fund local and international charities and towards the completion of a new cultural center: Hellenic Community Center to showcase Greek arts, culture, cuisine, entertainment, education, and community.
What is Glendi
The Greek Glendi, Louisville’s Hellenic Society Gala, is one of our most important fundraising events of the year. The word “Glendi” in its literal Greek translation, means “party,” but for the ancient Greeks, it signified the sharing of Greek cuisine, entertainment and culture. A silent auction is at place as well, and a now traditional raffle.
For one night only, the Olmsted is transformed into an elegant venue for a multiple course Greek fine dining, authentic ethnic dancing, and live bouzouki music with Kostas Kastanis band. Mayor Greg Fischer, and his wife, Dr. Alex Gerassimides, are honoring the event with their presence every year.
